Under Construction

This service allows college admission candidates to predict their chances of getting into particular colleges based on a set of eight factors:
  1. High School Grades
  2. SAT or ACT Scores
  3. SAT II Scores
  4. Advanced Placement (AP) Courses and Test Scores
  5. College Essays
  6. Extracurriculars
  7. Recommendations
  8. Personal Factors: race, gender, background

How it works.

In general, this service allows candidates of all kinds to predict their chances of getting a position. There are a certain number of factors that have different weights in deciding a candidate's overall chances of getting the position. These factors add up to 100%. Factor A, for instance, is how much experience the candidate has. From a computer, the candidate would enter a rating from 1-10. Let's say he entered a 6. Given than the experience factor weighs 50% of the candidates overall chances of getting the position, the candidate would earn 30 points (60% of 50 total points) for this answer. When all the factors were added up, the best possible score being 100, the candidate would receive a total score. This score would reflect the candidate's overall chances of getting the position according to the differently-weighed factors. It is not quite that simple though. The score calculated above is only the candidate's score for a theoretical "average" position. If the candidate scores an 80, he has an 80% chance of getting this "average" position. Yet each position (there are hundreds of positions) has its own difficulty level. So, where the candidate's score of 80 may give an 80% chance of getting the "average position" it may give a 25% chance of getting a position with a higher difficulty level. So, in effect, the candidate would get a RAW score first, which would then be adjusted for each position, depending on its difficulty level. In the end, the candidate would be able to see his or her chances of getting any of a number of different positions.
For college-bound students, for example, there are 8 factors. With B grades and average SAT scores, they might have a 90% chance of getting into a community school and a 10% chance of getting into Harvard. This is possible because, at the back-end, the difficulty level for each position as well as the weights of each of the 8 factors for the candidate's RAW score are stored.
